  • Images March 15, 2019: The Office of Banking Ombudsman RBI in collaboration with the British International School, Jammu conducted an awareness programme on Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) and Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions

    The programme was presided over by Sh. P Shimrah, Banking Ombudsman and Ombudsman for Digital Transactions for J&K. Sh. H S Verma, Secretary, OBO/ODT was also present. Smt. Gita Sharma the Chairperson, teachers, staff members attended the programme.
    Shri P Shimrah deliberated on the importance of financial freedom, in his inaugural speech. He emphasised the importance of knowing where the money comes from and where it goes, spending money wisely which means having a budget, saving money and investing wisely. He warned the audience against investing in Get Quick Rich Schemes and mentioned that generally wealth is created in stages and small steps. He said that Banking Ombudsman Scheme which is for common man is a highly successful scheme and informed the audience that last year more than 1.64 lakh complaints were redressed within average time of 2 to 3 months. He further explained that the procedure of filing complaints under the BO Scheme is very easy and grievance redressal in a fair and efficient manner is assured. Sh. H S Verma addressed the participants on the importance of Banking Ombudsman (BO) scheme for resolving Banking complaints. The BO scheme is free, fast, fair and effective mechanism in case the complaint is not resolved by the bank within 30 days of writing to it. He also advised the participants to keep a watch on SMS for all activities in their account and report immediately to bank if any unauthorized transaction takes place, be very careful while using ATM/Debit/Credit cards, note down CVV number separately which is printed on the credit card and delete it from the card to save them from any loss in case their card is lost or copied by someone. He strictly told not to reveal Bank Account, debit card Number, ID, PIN or OTP to anybody especially to those cheaters who ask for these details telephonically since no bank will ask them these details. He also told that if they receive an SMS or email about winning a lottery or a draw they should not send money. In case of complaints regarding use of digital Wallets, Prepaid Payment Instruments, mobile, electronic banking etc. e.g. non-credit to merchant, no refund of failed /unsuccessful/unauthorized transactions may also be lodged with BO Office, RBI Jammu or email may be sent at [email protected]. Smt.Gita Sharma the Chairperson while presenting vote of thanks advised all the participants to be vigilant while using online banking, ATM and not to reveal Pin/OTP to anybody. She thanked BO for its efforts/initiatives.
